A celebration of Lord Nelson, in dance, words and music of the time; devised by Maggie Marsh from local contemporary sources, and presented by Norwich Early Dance Group (View Picture Gallery).

The performance will be in authentic costume of the period, with live music (some of it from dances published by Augustin Noverre).

The presentation is available for booking during the period May – September 2005. Please contact us to inquire about commissioning a performance of ‘In the year of Trafalgar’.

A house in St Giles Street

The setting is a house in St Giles Street, Norwich, where a family and their friends are preparing to attend a ball at the Assembly House - the centre of social life in early 19th-century Norwich. They practice dances, reminisce, gossip about local affairs and people (especially the dancing masters of Norwich and the most successful of them all Mr Francis Noverre), and they recall Norfolk's hero, killed in the hour of victory.
